You know it. They say “brief update.” This is probably in regards to how Battlegrounds got messed up yesterday. People were talking about server-wide rollback but the system message soon said that if you had lost experience/AA due to zoning into/out of BG, to petition and they would re-imburse experience. Here is one of the many posts in regards to the BG issue AA’s reset to 200 AA’s after leaving battlegrounds.

So it brings to mind that perhaps today’s patch is to try and solve more issues with Battlegrounds. This morning I got another system message about a “brief” update. Now maybe I don’t remember correctly, but I don’t remember there ever being these many patches and these long patches at that, with any other expansion. Patches sure, just seems like there appear to be quite a bit of bugs with the release of Sentinel’s Fate and BG.

That being said, I really like the new expansion and the new zones. It would be nice if the gnomes at Sony would consider crediting some of the subscription fee since one can’t play but yet one pays for playing, and there have been quite extensive patches lately. 1 hour turns into 2, 2 turns into 5 etc.

There is another patch today. The downtime started at 6 am PST and is estimated to 2 hours. Here is the link to the network status page.

Here are the patch notes, quoted from Kiara on the EQ2 forums.

BATTLEGROUNDS

Battlegrounds are now live in EverQuest II! To access them, simply hit Alt+Z.

GENERAL

Guard levels in Freeport have been slightly adjusted: many level 95 guards remain, but they are no longer blocking access to quest updates for good-aligned players of high level.
Obelisk of Lost Souls: Characters who are high enough level to gray-out the access quests now automatically gain the power to open the doors.
Sata, the Quel’ule faction merchant, now also sells scholar type fuel (candles, coal, and incense).

ITEMS

Elemental Barrier (a unique proc on some PvP gear) has been improved as a proc and now stacks with itself
The PvP proc Mutilation has been changed. Instead of reducing the effectiveness of your target’s heals (thus making it only effective vs healers), it now reduces the effectiveness of all heals on your current target (making it effective vs anyone who is being healed)
Those that completed the quest “The Fleshbound Tome Speaks Again” can now buy the “Flesh Bound Tome” from the city sages in Freeport and Qeynos.
Those that completed the quest “A Crusade to Faydwer” can now buy “The Missing Pages of the Sword Heist Journal – Rebound” from the city sages in Freeport and Qeynos.
Those that completed the quest “Hadden’s Earring” can now buy “Hrath’s Journal” from the city sages in Freeport and Qeynos.
Sentinel’s Fate (and scaled-to-90 TSO dungeons) heroic legendary gear should all have resists now.
Roger Goldie’s Straw Hat should no longer have the “Hooluk in a Hat” effect on it.

QUESTS

Players that decline or delete the quest “Geobot” after completing “Conflict Among the Kobolds” can now regain it by speaking with Watchman Plarg in Steamfont.
Players are no longer being misdirected to search within “The Hole: Outer Vault” for Dartain’s Fortress, while on the quest “The Footsteps of Dartain: Emergence.”
Players on the quest “The Footsteps of Dartain: Experimentation” only need to speak with the spirit once in order to advance the quest.
“Infiltrating the Sanctum: Emissary Kvikz” now recognizes when the player defeats “Sslan’yiz the Animator”.
Alim Dabir in Sundered Frontier now responds for the quest ”Further Research Required” even if you have previously deleted it after completing other quests.
“Justice for Jojo” now updates more reliably at the final stage, and correctly removes quest items from inventory when they are no longer needed.

TRADESKILLS

Incorrect recipe costs on a number of crafted Mark of Manaar equipment items have been corrected.

NEKTULOS

The “guardian mist grinnin” have a higher chance of carrying the kneespikes required for the quest “Ashland Kneespikes.”

VASTY DEEP

Xilaxis the Explorer’s item tables have been corrected and he should always drop loot on both normal and challenge-mode.

Hopefully servers will be up soon, it has been about 3 hours downtime already.

Although it sucks when they have to bring the servers down, I understand that they have to sometimes. Today though, I have to give them kudos for actually having a big obvious post on the EQ2 players page. That is the first time I noticed that at least, and since it is a longer downtime, it is good that they made a post about it. Here is what they said:

Server Downtime – Thursday, December 10, 2009 from 1:00-10:00 AM PST -12/09/09. Beginning at 2:00 AM PST on Thursday, December 10, 2009, all SOE game servers will be offline for hardware maintenance. This includes all of our MMOs as well as TCGs. We expect the downtime to last around 4 hours. For the EQII servers this downtime will extend to 10am PST.

We need to hotfix in the morning to clear up some bugs and to turn on Frostfell. However we cannot hotfix immediately after the maintenance.

This downtime will be for all servers so that we can turn on Frostfell and the hotfixes at the same time for everyone. We realize that this will mean downtime during peak hours for some and we apologize for the inconvenience this presents. Thank you for your patience and we’ll update this thread with any new information.

We apologize for this interruption and will resume all affected services as soon as the maintenance is completed.

Until next blog post,
